Step by step
Turn on your hazard lights
Hit the hazard button first so drivers behind you see the car, even in daylight.
Move to the hard shoulder
If the car still rolls, get it as far right as you can. If it has stopped dead in a fast lane, do not get out and push it yourself.
Exit on the safe side
Leave through the door away from traffic, take everyone with you, and move behind the barrier or well clear of the lane.
Place your warning triangle
If you carry one, set it 50–100 metres behind the car so approaching traffic is warned early.
Request a tow on Wire
